Humble Crumble Old Spitalfields market 

What’s the first thought that comes to mind, when you want a warm heartfelt comforting dessert on a cold day? Something crumbly, fruity, served with a pool of creamy custard. The crumble of course! This was Kim Innes exact thoughts when she chose to start Humble Crumble. Started out as a pop up at a farmers market stall, Humble crumble has found a permanent home in Spitalfields market open all week long and trades at Borough Market on, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. 

East London location 

It was around this time last year in August when I made a visit, the only street food stall serving up a warm delicious dessert at a time. The founder Kim served me, a friendly person with a huge smile on her face. The crumble bar consists of the components of a crumble deconstructed. Food containers of various toppings, big pots of fruit flavourings, ice cream and custard being freshly made. Did you know that any custard order comes with unlimited refills?

The finished assembled crumble 

On the spot I made up an order of rhubarb & strawberry crumble, classic shortbread crumble, a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, dried rose petals, chopped almonds nuts and of course the vanilla custard. The fruity rhubarb and strawberry base warm-up your guts, thick creamy bourbon vanilla custard was a fresh batch made. In contrast, the hot and cold dessert with a scoop of ice cream will satisfy.
