Hungry Ronin takes on Polo Bar Pancake Challenge

Polo Bar Pancake Challenge

Just over a month ago, it was Shrove Tuesday in the UK. Many establishments have been preparing for their own pancake challenge. Polo Bar in Liverpool Street created a monstrous challenge of 10 pancake stack to be eaten in 10 minutes.

Polo Bar location

I’ve been past Polo Bar opposite Liverpool Street for many years and always turned a blind eye thinking it was just another greasy spoon café. Little did I know it is a real gem in the big smoke in this city of London and the added bonus of being open 24 hours just like Duck and Waffle around the corner.

Hungry Ronin

The Sunday I visited around lunchtime it was quite busy but I managed to get a table very soon for my friend and I. My friend is a competitive eater with a great following on his social channels, watch his videos online as he demolishes and conquer many of the food challenges undertaken. https://www.facebook.com/hungryronin/

The pancake challenge, accepted

So here’s the dealio you need to eat the 10 stack pancakes within 10 minutes to win a bottle of prosecco. As you can see from the photo, not only there were 10 super thick dense pancakes, but also it was loaded with cream, strawberries, cookies, sauce and berries in between the stacks. Do you think Hungry Ronin managed to finish it? You see at the end of the post.

Pancakes

Of course, I didn’t participate in the challenge; I opted for my own plate of award winning pancakes. The New Yorker, four thick pancakes with a special cheesecake cream, strawberries, fruit coulis sauce and crumbled up digestive biscuits. My, my I even struggled to finish those four pancakes on my own, it reminded of those thick American style pancakes I see in films and TV shows in diners. There were lips smacking good, pleasurable bite after bite.

The progress

Now let’s go back to that pancake challenge my friend was doing, people watched in amazement of how quick Simon devoured those pancakes, with only 53 seconds left to spare he polished it off and took away the prize.
