Bismil, a new-age singer, composer, and performer has been creating waves over the years delivering some of the most splendid and successful shows across the globe headlining at various college festivals, music & food festivals, private shows, and corporate events. Bismil started singing at the age of five and has learned from various Gurus and Gharanas. Exclusively managed by ‘Yours Eventfully’, he has an onstage singing experience of more than 10 years and loves presenting a heady mix of Sufi, Bollywood & retro numbers with a twist. He has an original composition launched by Zee Music Company in May 2019, with amassing 5 million+ views. The members of the band draw inspiration from great musicians and add their magic to the live shows. Bismil’s magical team constitutes a guitarist, a bassist, a drummer, a percussionist, and a keyboard expert. Bismil is dedicated to the pursuit of creating the perfect kind of entertainment. He loves connecting with the audience through their eclectic sound and has achieved success in doing so. Excerpts from his interview:
Tell us how your musical journey has been so far?
My journey has been an emotional one. I believe it’ll go on for my whole life. So far, it has been full of learning, I started learning music at the age of five and through the college, I performed at restaurants and now I travel with my band for shows, both national and international. I always aspired to have my own band; it was only made possible when I met Vibhor (my manager).
What was the inspiration behind your original track “Tere Bina”?
I have always been greatly inspired by the independent artists of our country and wanted to make independent music myself. ‘Tere Bina’ was my first ever attempt at that. This project taught me a lot and is very close to my heart. Another inspiration was to perform my own compositions at my live shows and by God’s grace, that dream came true too.
Tell us about your upcoming projects.
I have a Punjabi number ready for the audience. It was shot before the lockdown and we are still figuring out the release timeline. It has taken months of hard work to finalize this beautiful song. It’s another step in my musical journey and I hope it gets the attention it deserves.
How do you make your music so soulful?
Before doing a cover song, I make sure I listen to it on loop till the time it becomes a part of me. It’s challenging to cover a song because you don’t want to disappoint the fans and lovers of that song and that particular singer, yet you try to sing it in your own way so that it’s a bit different from the original track. And for my live performances, the energy of the audience reflects on me.
You have made so many beautiful covers, what is the secret behind your beautiful voice?
I give all the credit to Riyaz. When I sing, I try to feel the lyrics and go with the flow. I make sure that the emotion that I feel while singing is conveyed to my audience. However, there is still a long way for me to go.
You’re well versed in both the genres- Bollywood commercial as well as Sufi music. Tell us more about both genres.
To me, both genres have a special place. There are separate audiences for both. Whenever I perform, I try to give the audience what they enjoy the most. I love both commercial and Sufi and I think my USP is a blend of both. I’m not restricted to any particular genre and want to keep trying new things.
