I walked over 9 miles and done over 30,000 steps in a day – Lake District

Take me back to clean crisp air, tasty gastro pubs and walking around enjoying mother nature I got to go away from my life in the city to having no signal on my phone. Being unreachable, no constant notifications from my phone into the nature of smelly goats poop, avoiding them on my 9 mile, 5-hour hike, house on the prairie like landscapes around the countryside in Lake District. How do I know all this info? My fitbit HR tracked all the data. I’ve been using the Zip model for years and upgraded to the HR last year. The steps read 30,000 for the day rewarded with a badge for the most steps done in a day.

So when my friend asked me to join her on the trip I said “YES”. It’s a 5 hour ride from West London. We stayed at the lovely bnb Greenriggs arriving late at night the owner greeted us and handed over the keys to the family suite. The next day they made us a full English breakfast that’s included in the price.

We then picked up some snacks at the local supermarket and made our first stopover to the Derwent pencil factory. Browsing around the museum, we learnt about the history of pencils. How led from the pencil is been made, quality check on each and every pencil.

We then headed off to Market Square to start the trail, along the way we passed Friars Craig, Ruskins Monument, eventually ending up at Millenium Stone. Crossing Cat’s Gill, and got to the top of Walla Crag. The view was just amazing, windy and cold but was totally worth getting out of breath, climbing the dangerous hills without looking back. It has everything woods, streams, wild animals.

Another hour trek we passed along Castlerigg Stone Circle crossed over Old Teesside built the railway bridge, ending our walk back in town starving. The cozy pub we went into did fantastic English hearty staples. My steak pie filled with chunky pieces of tender beef and plenty of gravy. Pie crust was all buttery and flaky, the perfect comfort food from the cold and rain.

The next day we made a visit to the creator of Petter Rabbit Beatrix Potter house at the Hill Top, unfortunately, we were forbidden to take any photos inside and shortly had to make way back to London.
