Wally wants to give you your space. Unveiling its first wide-body model, the WHY200, at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The 78-foot yacht optimises every square inch to offer 2,153 square feet of interior space. Which is 50 per cent more than other yachts of the same size.

The vessel spans 88 feet and 9 inches, weighs 200 tons, and boasts the interior space of a superyacht with the speed of a semi-displacement yacht.

The WHY200 was designed by the Wally founder Luca Bassani, in collaboration with the Ferretti Group’s in-house engineering department. It also features naval architecture from Laurent Giles NA and interior design provided by A. Vallicelli & C Studio.

It offers a lounge area, dining room, four guest cabins, and a room for a crew of five, along with a central carbon fibre staircase leading you to the upper deck’s lounge. However, the crown jewel of this yacht is the owner’s room with a massive 398 square feet of space. Situated at the bow, the room is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass, giving you a panoramic view of the sea.

The yacht includes fold-out wings that offer 344 square feet of space with direct access to the sea and also has two concealed garages, adding to its immense storage space. There’s also an informal show kitchen that can be fitted if you’re a cooking enthusiast.

Beyond the lure of the expansive space onboard, the WHY200 is Wally’s first hybrid yacht and features an adaptive Volvo multi-propulsion system that makes it cruise at an impressive 20 knots in hyper displacement mode. The yacht also performs economically in long-range displacement mode, if you require efficiency instead of speed.

After exhaustive testing at the Solent University’s towing tank in Southampton, the yacht has been optimised to deliver a comfortable experience at a wide range of speeds.

The Cannes Yachting Festival isn’t the only place where boats are being showcased. The Southampton International Boat Show started a week ago on 10 September and will be ending in three days, 19 September.

Stay tuned for more on that.
