Since undergoing a complete renovation and menu overhaul, The Locale, formerly The Little Chalet, has emerged as a happening happy hour and late-night destination in Boca Raton. From 4 to 7 p.m., guests enjoy half-off wines by the glass, extra frosty beers (chilled to 28 degrees Fahrenheit), and cocktails like blood orange sage margaritas, often accompanied by live music. There are happy hour specials on empanadas, tacos, and wood-fired pizzas, but many linger to try the creative offerings from executive chef Joshua Miranda’s dinner menu, where he puts a Latin spin on new American dishes.
Traditional South American treats like coxinha (a fried dough stuffed with shredded chicken) and Brazilian picanha steak are served alongside plates such as fried green plantains topped with sliced octopus and avocado salsa, Los Chips (fried yucca, sweet potato, or plantains served with a trio of dips), and bucatini pasta in a yellow chili sauce. The wood-fired oven also assists in sugary endings: The Gran Finale dessert pizza, with banana slices, cinnamon, Cuban rum, and powdered sugar balances sweet caramelized flavor with a touch of smokiness. Come late evening, a lively bar scene fills in for the nightly DJ spinning Ibiza-style house music.
