I have some very exciting news to share! On July 12th I launched what is my biggest undertaking to date — my new luxury skincare brand, Caviar & Cashmere Skincare.
Before I get into the details, let’s start from the beginning. I have always been obsessed with beauty, from makeup to haircare to skincare. Sharing my love and passion for these things was one of the main reasons I started this blog.
In all honesty, I have not always had that “perfect Instagram filter” skin. I did not struggle with my skin until after graduating from University, when I began to suffer from monthly breakouts. This could have been due to a myriad of reasons: the stress of entering the workforce mid-recession, starting my blog and constantly having my makeup done or doing it myself for photoshoots, traveling on a plane constantly for work, and/or, hormonal imbalances.
I was in such distress experiencing these flare-ups that I went to see many of different specialists, desperate to find an answer. My gynecologist put me on birth control (I hated it, and in fact experienced some crazy fine print side effects), my dermatologist put me on cocktail of topical meds (which were full of chemicals and toxins,) and my general physician put me on anxiety meds to control my stress (I knew deep down that I had to treat the underlying issue not the symptoms, so I stopped those, too). All in all, I was feeling a little discouraged, and needless to say, a little “not like myself.”
Do not get me wrong, to the unknowing eye my skin was fine, but I knew that it wasn’t my normal skin, and it bred a lot of unnecessary distress.
As my blog began to grow and gain traction, I was fortunate enough to begin receiving a flurry of different products. A lot of which were skincare. I began to try them all, in search for one brand that could possibly help my skin clear up.
There were some products which I did see some difference in my skin, but I had a feeling they were not all that great for me overall. I began to research the ingredients used in these products and was astonished at the toxicity. As I learned more, I realized that these ingredients were not only harmful, they were legal in the U.S., where the beauty industry is essentially totally unregulated (I will explore this in a different post, because it really is interesting, and scary.)
I’ve always believed in the power of food as medicine and believed that what you put in your body has a huge effect on your health. I can’t tell you how many times I had done research on which foods are best for your skin. But, something I hadn’t considered was how products I was putting on my body affected my overall health.
Then began my quest for non-toxic skincare products. It was a journey in of itself, because at the time, not many were readily available. I felt good about my switch to clean skincare products, but was not seeing much of a difference in my skin.
As the skincare industry began to grow year over year, I had high hopes of finding “the one” brand that would help me once and for all. Unfortunately, as the industry grew, so did the confusion and frustration. Now, there were so many brands pushing so many different products that it was all very overwhelming. I was being marketed ten different products that I was supposedly supposed to use on my face every day and every night. I truly did not believe that I needed an morning eye cream, afternoon eye gel, and evening eye mask. I almost gave up.
I began to test out different natural ingredients on myself, to try and find my own solution for both clearing up blemishes but also beginning a comprehensive preventive, anti-aging routine now that I was in my late twenties. I realized that taking this into my own hands was the only way to go.
I was able to manage my own skincare routine combining a few simple remedies: managing my stress, eating cleaner, and using fewer products on my skin that were all non-toxic.
When I opened up to my family, friends, colleagues, and others about this journey, and the confusion and inundation of messaging around skincare, I realized I was not alone. Everyone felt the same way! They wanted less products that were more effective for both clear, radiant skin but also age prevention, all while being safe and non-toxic.
This is why I began Caviar & Cashmere Skincare. A brand where you do not need to have a ten step regimen full of pricey products that may cause harm to your health. A brand where you will see results even from using less products every day, because the clean ingredients inside are active, potent, and clinical grade.
Caviar & Cashmere is a clean clinical direct-to-consumer brand, priced entirely under $100. Caviar & Cashmere Skincare aims to simplify your morning regimen, slimming down the morning routine to three essential, multi-tasking daily products: a cleanser, serum and moisturizer.
Each product was developed with non-toxic medical grade ingredients that I knew worked for me, such as antioxidants like vitamin c and e, tea tree extract, orange peel oil, hyaluronic acid and ferulic acid. I made sure that Caviar & Cashmere products were free of the harmful things I know was aware of such as fragrance, parabens, sulfates and phthalates. I also wanted the line to be absolutely cruelty-free & vegan. Available for all.
The best thing about the products is that they’re all multi-tasking, meaning you do not need three products to get a few different results. For example, the HydraLuxe creme, which is a hyaluronic acid moisturizer, actually works as the perfect makeup primer as well.
I started talking about these products and their launch back in May, on my social networks. In that short amount of time, the line had over a 2,000 person wait list, which reaffirmed my notion that I was not the only one seeking simplicity in skincare. Those people who had signed up on the wait list were the first to be able to shop the products when the e-commerce site launched on July 12th. The shop is now open for everyone.
I will not lie and say that my skin is now constantly in a state of “Instagram filter perfection” but I do attribute my clearer, more radiant complexion to Caviar & Cashmere Skincare. I still have my days, but if I have learned anything from this journey, is that skincare is an investment, and there is no such thing as perfect. I hope you will have a chance to try these three products of mine, and fall in love like I have. I believe that we all deserve to feel beautiful every day, but not at the cost of our own health. Nothing is as important as feeling good from the inside out.
