Bermondsey Street seems to have struck gold with high quality restaurants along the road. This was the second one out 3 I visited and all three places I just simply adored the food. Zucca was mentioned to me a few times a few years ago, a lot of food lovers alike had only positive words about the place. I walked passed this place a few times, and the place is always filled to rim with diners. Do you remember the blog post about Jose?
Zucca means pumpkin in Italian, I have no idea why they named the restaurant after a pumpkin, but hey it’s catchy and yes there is a dish called Zucca. The spacious restaurant boasts a super sleek and sophisticated outlook, with modern white furnishing with plenty of natural lighting beaming through. The open kitchen allows you to see the chefs at work.

All food is made fresh on premises, and the selection board of breads is complimentary.

Zucca fritto is a must have, the neatly pile of logs of battered pumpkin and vegetables, resembled a Jenga puzzle. The batter was light and crispy, and I generally love tempura this was scrumptious, but wait it was only £3.

The menus are always changing, and I stupidly forgot to take a pic of the menu that day. My friend opted for the prawns for starters; the plate was presented with 2 pieces and a prawn head. The ravishing prawn was juicy full of flavour; we slowly devoured every single bite.
The pastas we had were second to none, and hit the spots. You have a choice of having it as a main or a starter portion. We both had main portions, and it was generous in size.

Pappardelle with meat ragu, Parmesan was very rich, the shredded chunks of tender meat, melted in the mouth instantly and Parmesan added a dimension of flavour.
I have forgotten the name of the dish I had, this also didn’t disappoint, full-bodied flavour, with added crunch from the walnuts tickled the taste buds. The fresh pasta was to die for and one of the best ones I have tried in London.
Of course we needed some sweet endings and the ice creams on the dish stole the show. I couldn’t get enough of the intense soft, creamy scoop of ice cream paired with the cakes and tarts.
Zucca is a charming place, relaxing environment and won’t cost the earth. The pastas are so dam yummy, and the Zucca fritto’s are a must!
