The new Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph represents the first IWC in-house-made movement, the 89630 caliber, to combine the double chronograph counter with moonphase system, both on a single subdial at 12 o’clock. The moon remains stationary against the night sky, while the moonphase disc below the dial, acting as a shadow of the Earth, depicts the waxing and waning moon. The perpetual calendar is so precise that in the course of 577.5 years, the display will deviate by just one day from the moon’s actual course. For the chronograph, the hour and minute counters are combined in a totalizer that enables stopped times to be read off as if they were the time of day. The 43mm stainless steel watch is finished with a black leather strap by Santoni. A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the complex movement.
