Enamelling is one of the oldest forms of artisanal decoration. Historically, they used to beautify jewellery when the required gemstones were not available. All across the world, each culture developed their own techniques for application: the Byzantines favoured cloisonné enamelling while the French practiced the arts of champlevé enamelling. By the time the Art Nouveau era rolled around, the flavour of the day was plique à jour.
Powdered glass to metal, artists favoured enamelling for its lustrous qualities, enhancing their works with an other worldly sheen. What the Jaeger-LeCoultre artisans at the brand’s Le Sentier manufacture practice on the other hand, showcases their art of precision. With masterful cuts that do not shatter or blemish the fragile layer, the technical wonder that is Master Ultra Thin Perpetual and its artistic Enamel Chestnut face is but an exemplar of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s art of precision.
Jaeger LeCoultre Only Watch 2019 – Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Enamel Chestnut
For the Only Watch 2019 charity auction, Jaeger-LeCoultre is presenting the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Enamel Chestnut. Following the dark blue guilloche enamel edition launched earlier this year at SIHH, the face of the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual enjoys the same painstaking handcrafts in the creation of its Enamel Chestnut dial, adding a sumptuous, milk chocolate countenance to its white gold case.
The JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Enamel Chestnut is the only one of its kind and it will be auctioned with proceeds going towards medical research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Association monégasque contre les myopathies.
The talents of the Manufacture’s Métiers Rares artisans meet seasoned watchmakers in the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Enamel Chestnut thanks to its generous, well-cut dial capable of capturing the kaleidoscope of ambient lighting – this Jaeger LeCoultre is at once both masculine and elegantly sophisticated – the ultimate gentleman’s dress watch.
Four beautifully proportioned counters provide symmetry to the hand-guillochéd dial including a new display of the perpetual calendar at 12 o’clock. At 6 o’clock there is a subtle moon phase that simultaneously indicates the moon’s waxing and waning phases in both hemispheres. The sophisticated workmanship extends into the minutiae of the subdials with barely-corn engraving for the year, day and date subdials and hammered relief on the moon’s phases.
