Jean-Paul Gaultier partners with Seven and I

Following his decision to shutter his ready-to-wear line, French fashion’s enfant terrible has revealed his next move to spearhead the Japanese outfitter’s new premium clothing line.

It turns out that Jean-Paul Gaultier hasn’t exactly been devoting 100% of his time to his Haute Couture collections, as was announced earlier this year. The couturier has been designing the first womenswear collection of Seven and I’s new premium line “Seven Premières”.

Mirroring successful fellow Japanese brand Uniqlo’s tactics, Seven and I is welcoming renowned designers in an attempt to widen its global appeal.

The line will feature fashionable yet functional tops, coats, dresses, trousers and accessories with an emphasis on quality.

The range will be available online and at leading department stores — Ito-Yokado, Sogo & Seibu — in Japan in October with prices between approximately ¥4,000 and ¥31,000 (30 and 230 euros).

Mr. Gaultier’s refined designs will seek to “make many women look beautiful,” and the line will be named “Jean Paul GAULTIER FOR Sept Premières”, explained the Japanese apparel retailer.

Ito-Yokado and Sogo & Seibu will manage every process from development to retail sales.
