Asked to briefly describe his professional acumen, Dr. Jefferson Vaughan is ready. “Punctual, efficient, and I complete tasks faster than other people,” he says.
Vaughan graduated from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine on a U.S. Navy scholarship and completed his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami. After two years stationed in Japan, he rounded out his military duty in Charleston, South Carolina. He moved to Palm Beach and opened his practice in 1995.
While he’s experienced in all aspects of general surgery, Vaughan performs a significant amount of bariatric surgery and gastric bypasses for weight loss, reflux, and hiatal hernias. Everything is done laparoscopically, and he uses a 3-D camera for greater depth perception. “Most people come because I can do things with the laparoscope that other people can’t,” he says.
Vaughan has also created a line of vitamins formulated for the nutritional needs of bariatric patients. In his spare time, he makes furniture for charities like Loggerhead Marinelife Center and Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum to auction off. “Everybody’s got to have a hobby,” he says.
