Jeffree Star Opens Up About Having His ‘Forehead Lowered’ in Shane Dawson Docuseries

During a new docuseries with fellow YouTuber Shane Dawson, makeup guru Jeffree Star opened up about past cosmetic procedures he’s gone through — including forehead surgery. The MUA always keeps things very candid with fans and reflected on how loyal his fanbase is, despite feeling like “Frankenstein.”

The conversation between the internet celebs began in the first hour-long episode when Shane admitted that he was feeling self-conscious and worried about “being judged” before an event to meet 25,000 of Jeffree’s fans. “I’m actually very, very scared. The world of beauty is something that gives me anxiety because it’s very much look-oriented, and I am very much ‘don’t look at me’ oriented,” he confessed. “I’m scared that people are going to think, ‘Oh, Shane’s ugly. Shane’s fat. Shane’s whatever.’ I am so fat right now. I have not worked out in months.”

“I’m Frankenstein, so you’re good. You can’t feel insecure,” Jeffree assured his friend while noting that he’s documented some serious procedures for followers. “These people have seen my mouth sliced open; they’ve seen my forehead lowered. They’ve seen me at my worst and ugliest, and they just love us for us. I don’t think anyone’s there to judge you at all.”

Back in 2016, the cosmetics king revealed that he had undergone surgery to move his hairline. After “extensive research,” Jeffree settled on Dr. Craig Ziering, the surgeon who performed the same procedure for Caitlyn Jenner.

“Basically I’ve hated my hairline since I was in 9th grade. My parents have bad hair genes and it carries over! And I also shave my eyebrows off to draw them on, which makes it look worse when I have no makeup on!” he explained on Instagram about the decision. “To be able to fix something that has bothered me for so long is a blessing because I never dreamed of it ever changing!”

The procedure sounded intensive. “This hair is genetically programmed not to fall out. These hairs are permanent,” the YouTube star continued. “The doctor and his team dissect everything under a microscope and to make each hair follicle precise, so it flows with my new hairline. They then made over 3,000 tiny incisions where the hair gets placed and BAM … After [seven] hours I have a new hairline!”

Hey guys! I wanted to share what has been going on! I hate keeping secrets from you but I’ve been filming my whole surgery and the healing process so I’ve been laying low! Basically I’ve hated my hair line since I was in 9th grade. My parents have bad hair genes and it carries over! And I also shave my eyebrows off to draw them on, which makes it look worse when I have no makeup on! So after extensive research, I found THE best hair transplant surgeon: Dr. Ziering. He’s (@dr.craig_l_ziering) innovative and the best there is. He’s the one who created @caitlynjenner’s new amazing hair line! To be able to fix something that has bothered me for so long is a blessing because I never dreamed of it ever changing! The video above shows the incision in the back of my head, where they take all the donors to harvest. This hair is genetically programmed not to fall out. These hairs are permanent. The doctor and his team dissect everything under a microscope and to make each hair follicle precise, so it flows with my new hairline. They then made over 3,000 tiny incisions where the hair gets placed and BAM… After 7 hours I have a new hair line! it will take a few months to fully heal and I’m so excited to see it all come together! I will be putting up a video soon, where I show the whole process from being in the operating room, to healing weeks later! I think if you live your life in the public eye, it’s OK to let people behind the curtain and experience these types of things together, not just because it’s educational, but because I feel like we have such a strong bond, I love taking you guys on the journey with me! I’ve pre-filmed a few videos, so get ready to see my Hawaii VLOG this week and my Q&A with Nathan! Love y’all and have an amazing weekend!

Why did Jeffree share something so personal? He noted that his community is extremely close. “I think if you live your life in the public eye, it’s OK to let people behind the curtain and experience these types of things together, not just because it’s educational, but because I feel like we have such a strong bond,” he wrote. “I love taking you guys on the journey with me.”

Thanks for keeping it real!
