YouTuber Jeffree Star issued a heartfelt statement after he and friend Daniel Lucas were hospitalized for injuries following a “severe” car accident in Wyoming on Friday, April 16.
“This morning was one of the scariest moments of our entire lives. I’m so grateful to be here still. I’m in excruciating pain because part of my back is broken, and I have vertebrae fractures on my spine. My doctor said it will take a few months, but I should make a full recovery,” the makeup guru, 35, posted via Instagram Stories.
Jeffree also shared an update on Daniel’s well-being after the crash. “My best friend was in the passenger seat,” the social media influencer continued. “He has internal injuries and because he has survived colon cancer three times, he’s having complications with his organs and they’re monitoring him 24/7. We’ll know more soon. Thank you to every single person checking on us.”
Fans shared their kind words and prayers for the duo after seeing the new photo showing Jeffree in a neck brace while holding onto Daniel’s hand in the hospital. According to the Twitter message from Jeffree’s team at 2 p.m. ET, their “car flipped [three] times after hitting black ice.”
The Wyoming Highway Patrol later confirmed that Jeffree was driving when his car veered off the road, “overturning the vehicle” in the process. They told E! News that Jeffree had “lost control and lost traction” because of the slush and black ice that covered the highway, adding, “Drugs and alcohol are not being investigated as possible factors.”
A day before the terrifying car accident, Jeffree and Daniel revealed they would soon be sharing a new video on YouTube about their friendship.
“Tomorrow we have a brand-new video. It’s really special to me. Me and Daniel share a lot of our past, a lot of what’s going on now,” the former singer-songwriter said via his Instagram Stories on April 15. “[The video] is over 20 minutes of history, comedy, laughter, crying, pain and — most of all — inspiration.”
Earlier today, Daniel took to Instagram Stories with his own video from the hospital and thanked fans for their loving messages and support.
