An invite from jet2holidays dropped into my inbox, to launch the two new Greek destinations flying to Lefkas and Parga in 2020 even creating the hashtags #jetme2thegreek #jetmetothegreek to mark the special occasion. Jet2holidays invited a whole bunch of influencers to an event to cook some Greek dishes, participate in a quiz and eat our hard earn work at the end.

New destination

I must admit Greece is a destination I’ve still not been to, and Santorini is somewhere on the top of my wishlist to visit. The pure white buildings and blue tops against the crystal-clear blue sea look great all year round.  

Heading down to Jenius social we kicked off the night with drinks and canapes reception before taken to the kitchen to start cooking. Our chef briefly spoke about Greek cuisine, which makes up a triad of olive oil, grains, fish, and wine.

We first made our first dish of the night, a Greek salad made up of red onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and feta cheese, finished with a seasoning of dried mixed herbs and olive oil.

Next up we made the filling for our stuffed peppers, bulgur wheat, fresh coriander, roasted vegetables, were thrown together in a bowl before being mixed and stuffed in the peppers, topped with cheddar cheese.

The next dish was Spanakopitakia (Spinach Pie) & Tiropita (Cheese Pie), these are one of my favourite things to order at restaurants. Melted feta and ricotta creamy thick cheese in a thin crispy filo pastry are to die for. Folding these into triangles can be quite technical and we all helped each other out when we got stuck.

Now, souvlaki is something I love, it is a very popular dish consisting of meat and vegetables grilled on a stick. As the meat eater I marinated diced chicken thighs with dried oregano, marjoram, sumac, mint, garlic and put them on a stick.

The last dish that needed preparing was the tzatziki dip, this minty, herby dip taste excellent with the grilled souvlaki meat.

Whilst waiting for our food to cook, we were greeted by a decked out long table covered in blue and white checks, and flowerpots filled with sunflowers. As we tucked away to all the food, we prepared the big Greek quiz came up with jet2holidays. With less than half correct answers I learned a lot more about Greece.
