A true talent. Joey King opened up about what is was like to costar with her ex-boyfriend Jacob Elordi in The Kissing Booth 2. “No one’s thinking to themselves, ‘That was easy,’ because it wasn’t. I’m sure people will analyze every movement and every detail. And you know what? Let them,” the longtime actress, 21, told Cosmopolitan magazine‘s August 2020 issue.
“At the end of the day, I was just thrilled to be Elle Evans again,” Joey added, referring to her beloved role in the Netflix franchise. “There’s so much I want to say. What’s the most, um, correct way to go about this? Elle Evans needs her Noah Flynn, and whatever that means for my personal life, I’ll do anything to make sure the story of my character who I care about so much is complete.”
When the original Kissing Booth movie aired in May 2018, Joey and Jacob, who plays Noah Flynn, were dating in real life. As a result, young audiences became even more enamored with their onscreen love story.
Unfortunately, after less than a year together, the couple quietly split in November 2018. Prior to their breakup, Joey revealed how she and Jacob, 23, realized their relationship wasn’t entirely platonic.
“Well, I thought he was very cute when we first met, but it started as a friendship. Right away we were talking about gross things with each other,” the Crazy, Stupid, Love alum previously told Bello magazine.
“But before long I started to realize, ‘Hey, I think I kind of like this person!’ It was such an interesting experience meeting your boyfriend on set because you spend so much time together and become so close so fast,” Joey continued. “We were spending 17 hours a day together, and all of us would hang out after work and watch movies together and stuff. It was great.”
Since then, Jacob is rumored to be dating his Euphoria costar Zendaya. For Joey’s part, she recently fueled romance speculation with The Kissing Booth 2’s Taylor Zakhar Perez after the pair went on a weekend getaway with friends and family on August 1.
As it stands, The Kissing Booth 3 is slated to hit Netflix in 2021. Here’s hoping Joey and Jacob can make things work on set again!
