Following the success of Squid Game, it was only a matter of time before one of fashion’s big players snagged Jungjae Lee, and it seems as if Gucci has won.
Lee, who plays Gi-Hun (aka player 456) has been announced as Gucci’s new global brand ambassador alongside actress Mina Shin. The announcement comes after Louis Vuitton managed to appoint Jung Ho-yeon only weeks after the show was released, and she’s already been wearing the label multiple times including at this week’s CFDA Awards.
With Squid Game becoming Netflix‘s most-watched series to date, with nearly 150 million households watching the show in its first four weeks on the streaming platform, it comes as no surprise that brands would be looking to work with the cast. Lee, who recently joined Instagram following the release, has already amassed 4.7 million followers with only 30 posts.
Of course, director Hwang Dong-hyuk recently confirmed that he’s working on season two, so we’re guaranteed to see more of Jungjae Lee – and more Gucci, of course.
Lee is currently also making his directorial debut with an upcoming movie titled Hunt.
“His talent, combined with his very personal and well-defined take on fashion, speak to Gucci’s values of inclusivity and self-expression,” said Gucci about his appointment.
It remains to see who will be snapping up Park Hae‑soo (Sang-Woo) and Wi Ha‑joon (Hwang Jun‑ho), because the Squid Game love shows no signs of slowing down – especially with the news surrounding the fan-driven second season. Perhaps now that Gi-hun has plenty of money to spend, we’ll see some Gucci fits both in real life, as well as in the show.
