For those living under a rock, there is a new Star Wars flick landing at a theater near you on December 18. Star Wars: The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. Since the collapse of the Empire, a new intergalactic overlord has emerged, controlling what is now called The First Order, with the Rebel Alliance changing their stripes to simply the Resistance. All those fan favorites have aged a bit—as Carrie Fisher quipped here, when we inadvertently broke the news she would be reprising her role as Princess Leia in the film—which means a whole new crop of heroes are now on the scene wielding light sabers, battling the forces of evil, and cutting down Stormtroopers by the thousands (those troops are like ants, and just as dispensable).

To celebrate all the spacy fun—and the projected billions this film will raise (seriously, the $4 billion price tag Disney paid for the franchise is looking like the steal of the century—don’t be surprised if half of that is recouped after this film alone), North County’s ode to the silver screen, Cinépolis Jupiter, will be whisking guests off to a galaxy far, far away on the evenings of December 17-19, when the crew from the 501st Legion of Official Volunteer Stormtroopers joins the party. The 501st Legion is part of an international fan-based organization that builds and wears screen-accurate replica costumes from the Star Wars’ universe, so expect plenty of battle-ready Stormtroopers in all their various forms (Storm, Sand and Snow), Clonetroopers, Imperial Officers, and maybe even a Sith Lord.
- Photo ops with the characters will run from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, December 17-19. Cinépolis Jupiter will be offering a Limited Edition Poster Package, which includes two 44oz. limited edition Star Wars cups with drink, one 130oz. limited edition metallic Star Wars popcorn tin with popcorn, and one limited edition satin-coated 18 x 24 inch film poster. Tickets are still available for screenings. For more information, visit cinepolisusa.com/jupiter.
