Following the surprise news that Kanye West will be dropping his new album DONDA this week, Beats by Dre debuted a new campaign during Game 6 of the NBA Finals, featuring athlete Sha’Carri Richardson, scored and edited by the rapper himself.
Sha’Carri has been the topic of conversation in the past few weeks, following her suspension after a positive test for marijuana, causing the runner to miss her opportunity to compete in the Tokyo Olympics. The decision was the start of ongoing conversations around expectations and rules of athletes, seeing as other American sports leagues have loosened the rules around the substance. Now, “America’s fastest woman” makes her return. “Whether she’s breaking records or the traditional athlete mold, Sha’Carri’s journey in the global spotlight is only just beginning,” said Beats by Dre.
The one-minute-long spot features a new song called “No Child Left Behind,” which will be featured on DONDA. The ad also officially confirms the release date for the highly anticipated album to be Friday, July 23, with an Apple Music Livestream taking place on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
