It wasn’t exactly love at first sight for Keith Urban and his wife, Nicole Kidman! In fact, the country music artist didn’t think he stood a chance with the A-list actress when they met at the G’Day USA gala in 2005.
“I thought she was way out of my league. I’m a kid from Brissy and somewhere along the line I ended up meeting Nic. Not in a million years did I think I would end up with her,” Keith, 53, recalled in a 2018 interview with Andrew Denton.
“When I met her there was just this aura that seemed so out of reach,” the New Zealand native continued, before revealing he waited four months to finally call Nicole, 53, to ask her out.
“I had her phone number for a while and I was thinking if I call her, she’s going to answer, what do I say. But I was in a place, a not very healthy place in my life,” Keith added. “I never thought she would be ever interested in me. But one day I plucked up the courage, I called her she answered, and we talked and talked and talked and it was effortlessly. It was like we grew up side by side. It was a conspiracy of angels. Friends of hers and mine kept on encouraging it. And we gravitated towards each other very quickly.”
As fans of the couple know, the pair later tied the knot in June 2006. Keith and Nicole also share daughters Sunday and Faith. Additionally, the Big Little Lies actress has two older children, Isabella and Connor, whom she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise. Nicole and Tom, 58, were married from 1990 to 2001.
Thankfully, it didn’t take her long to find love again! “[Keith] just came along and protected me. He’s loved me, given me confidence and made me so much more comfortable,” the Oscar Award-winner told Marie Claire in an October 2020 interview.
“I married into my heart. He knows who I am, and he’s opened me up,” Nicole added. “We have an interesting balance because I’m an introvert and he’s an extrovert.”
