She’s a talk show host and a coach on The Voice, but being a mom always comes first for Kelly Clarkson. The singer has a girl and boy — River Rose, 5, and Remington, 4 — with her soon-to-be ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, whom she filed for divorce from on June 11.
Brandon also has two older children — Savannah, 17, and Seth, 12 — from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth. Obviously, Kelly is in full-time mommy mode and handles it like a pro.
The 38-year-old seems equally close to her two kids. She’s expressed before how she wants to be a great example for them, especially for her daughter. “I try to just be a confident female for her ― and I believe actions obviously speak louder than words, it’s an old saying but it’s very true,” the “Broken & Beautiful” singer previously explained to Redbook about River Rose.
There’s no denying that Kelly is a powerful force. Brandon, whom Kelly married in 2013, admired that about her. “It’s a turn on [for my husband] that I’m a pretty badass female; boys that I dated before, they got intimidated by it, [and] that’s not fair to me because I work very hard,” she revealed at the time. “So I’m glad our boys and also our girls have a man to look [up to], who shows them, ‘This is how you treat a woman, this is how you respect a woman.’ He takes his daughter on dates and shows her, ‘This is what a guy should do.'”
However, being as busy as she is can sometimes take a toll on the American Idol alum. “I have a lot of mom guilt,” she confessed. “If you’re a mom, you want to be with your kid every day. You don’t want to miss a moment, you want her to need you and want you and not want somebody else. But I think it’s really important not only for my little girl and our [older] girl and our boys to see that a woman is capable of kicking ass while also being a kickass mom. I’m not gonna BS you, that’s hard.”
