Designed by Architect Greg Truen (a director at SAOTA), Kloof 119A is a cliffside house with epic views of Cape Town. But it’s no ordinary commission from a client, this home on one of the most prominent roads in Cape Town was actually built for him and his family. It stands to reason that when you’re designing something for yourself, the stakes and emotional investment is higher and from the press images, it becomes readily apparent that Kloof 119A was constructed to provide her owners some of the best views of the South African capital and the lovingly created interior to maximise the easy glamour and comfort with the natural environs of the neighbouring Lion’s Head and Table Mountain to the side and back of the property.

Surrounded by some of the most emblematic South African landscapes, the Kloof 119A interprets Truen’s brief (as reported by CoolHunter) – “To create a house that made the most of the mountain site and the views that surround the house while obscuring the busy street and the surrounding houses from the view”, making ample use of wall to ceiling windows and wall-to-wall glazing to ensure maximum view of Cape Town and the surrounding mountain side of Lion’s Head and Table Mountain. Needless to say, the results are astounding and Kloof 119A gives even Tony Stark’s Santa Monica Cliffside House a run for his money.
The 850 square-metre (9,150 sq. ft) Kloof 119A residence ensures no view goes unseen but the domicile is truly as graceful and beautiful as its surrounding landscape. An ingenious “inverted” roof offers expansive views of the skies above South Africa as well. Utilising natural materials like wood and stone, the Kloof 119A is a tasteful cliffside house with interesting geometry.
The three storey Kloof 119A house in Cape Town has open courtyards on each level, the highest naturally enjoying the most impressive views and the crucial living spaces like the family lounge, dining area and open kitchen. The bed room spaces are all neatly sandwiched on the 2nd level while the first floor is home to the garage (obviously), gym, cinema and guest room.
Unanimously, the LUXUO team enjoys the impressive panorama from the living room’s poolside terrace which overlooks the skyline of Cape Town and the Winelands in the distance. Kloof 119A’s night-time view is simply sublime.
