There’s that famous scene in Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts picking up a pizza slice then biting into it and exclaiming she’s in love and having a relationship with pizza. Thanks to that movie, that very Pizzaria in Naples, Italy is crammed with queues of people is L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele. L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele has finally opened up in London, at Baker Street. Conveniently located near the tourist hot spots, Madame Tussauds, and moments away from Regent’s Park. The first thing you notice as you enter the restaurant is the bright pink neon sign with “I want someone to look at me the same way I look at pizza” and the big massive woodfire oven cooking pizzas. The original L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele at their birthplace in Naples only serves two varieties, margherita or marinara.
The London branch has eight different ones to try, ordering the standard margherita pizza to take away the price is also triple at £10 compared to €3-4 in the Naples. The pizza was ready in a matter of minutes bringing back the pizza box back to the office. I opened up the box and saw the pizza was not in a perfect round shape, the pizza is bigger than the box, overlapping on the sides. The pizza base is almost like flatbread with charred black spots, the base uses the freshest tomatoes and creamiest fiordilatte mozzarella cheese.
The pizza
This is one of best tasting pizzas you can get, using the simplest ingredients and basic toppings. It is one of the most memorable pizzas I had. What I like about this pizza is that it leaves you satisfying full without feeling bloated. I’m looking forward to heading back to try the rest of the pizza’s out.
