L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon – 2 Michelin star restaurant

For my birthday I went all out and treated myself to a lovely meal, I had 3 of my besties with me. After flickering through toptable I saw the fantastic deal of 2 courses for £22 and booked right away. This is my first time going a Michelin rated restaurant, I’m a real foodie and my taste palette is pretty impeccable.

Coming out of Convent Garden, I used my trusty google map on the iPhone in search for this restaurant I roughly knew where to go as I shop around the area quite often. We finally stumbled across the restaurant from the outside the building is painted black I read other food bloggers review on this place how the restaurant is locked from the inside. It was unlocked when we arrived, greeted by the lovely receptionist that removed our coats to be put away in the cloak room. We was told the table I reserved was ready immediately, the inside of L’Atelier de Joel is dimmed and mysterious. As you walk in you see the open kitchen and the cooks cooking the meals for diners, we was sat near the green plant wall and the waiter came to our immediate attention, telling us about the special house drink and the menu for the deal. We decided on 2 courses instead of two as I knew the portions will be tiny.

From the lunch menu we choose

L’OEUF

cocotte à la crème légère de champignons des sous-bois

Egg cocotte topped with light wild mushrooms cream

The mushrooms was a little on the too salty side for me but the flavours blended well together. Overall we really loved the dish.

3 of us tried braised beef and potatoes, I had a similar dish at the taste of Christmas event the beef was cooked perfectly and was just right tender and chewy texture the potatoes was standard and the red wine sauce went well with the dish.

My friend chi opted for

LE SAUMON D’ECOSSE

mariné “maison” en aiguillettes et salade de pomme de terre à l’échalote

Marinated Scottish salmon with potato salad and shallots

Alas there was no more salmon so she was served with mackerel as replacement but she preferred that fish anyways.

Once we finished the main course the waitress asked if we wanted our dessert up on the bar floor, as it was my first time I wanted to explore the place. Escorted to the lift we went on the third floor there’s an open Terrance for those wanting to eat and drink outside. We sat inside when the dessert arrived we was ooo and ahhing over the dish, it’s huge, and you can see whole strawberries.

The service was exceptional from the staff and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet evening, we left satisfied. It’s now time to save the £££ for The Fat duck.
