Learn to Grow – Rushad Rana

Rushad Rana belongs to the old school of acting, but he also understands the value and power of social media. He says, “I am still trying to learn it”. The confession speaks a lot about the actor who is trying to create a balance between his small and big screen presence. In a quick chat with TMM, the versatile actor talks about his thought process of acting for different mediums and the value of success and failure in life.

Rushad Rana Rushad Rana, How you are balancing between TV and films?
It depends mainly on the dates. If the schedule is given beforehand and things are planned in advance then I can work on my TV shoots. Otherwise, it becomes tricky to create a balance and give time slots.

Rushad Rana, You have done TV, films, and web too. What difference do you find in each medium?
They all are different in their own ways. Television is very instant, everything has to be done on spot, and everyone is running towards TRP and episodes delivery. Whereas in movies and web series, things are planned, there is a schedule given to you, scripts are rehearsed and there is a span of time to complete the project. Here, the pressure is lesser than television.

Rushad Rana, Do you think nowadays it’s a trend of social media stars rather than the actors with a craft?
I wouldn’t say that it’s a trend of social media stars rather I would say that people who are socially very active get a little more noticed by casting people. Ultimately, people see your acting/ craft which takes you ahead. Yes, social media is an important thing nowadays. I am still trying to learn it (laughs).

The industry is overcrowded now and competition is the order of the day. So what do you have to say about the competitive market?
The industry was crowded and the competition was even then when I began. At that time also there used to be 40 people sitting there to give auditions but now it’s 80. But I believe that there is enough work for everyone in the industry. If you are persistent, then you will get the work your worth.

Rushad RanaGiven a choice, you would do a daily soap or a movie?
I would definitely do a movie as compared to a daily (soap). I like working in phases, rather than 25 days a month. So I prefer a web series or movies. Moreover, it is lucrative for me. I can do daily soaps provided the schedules are in order.

Who is your favourite Bollywood actor (male and female) and why?
My favourite Bollywood actors are Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. Both of them are immensely talented and have done some extremely challenging roles. In my opinion, they are like pure talents.

What did you learn from success and failure?
You should not let both of these things get to you. If you let success get to you, then you will get arrogant and that will never take you a long way. If you let failure affect you, then along with failure negative emotions like depression, anger, frustration comes to you which are not worth attention. One should learn to be in a neutral state.

Any tips that you would like to share for newcomers?
Never take things and people for granted in life. Don’t think that if you have done one hit show then you don’t have to work hard rather you have to work harder. So keep your head low and actions high.
