Let’s All Agree That Balenciaga Won the Met Gala

Not everything is a competition, but if the Met Gala was considered one, Balenciaga definitely took home the gold this year.

It may seem like an odd choice considering the theme of the night was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, and Balenciaga is far from an American brand, but for some reason, the fashion house nailed down some of the best looks – and best talent.

Dressing Rihanna should practically secure an instant win, and this year, she wore a big black Balenciaga couture gown that made us literally gasp – especially when stood next to her boyfriend A$AP Rocky who wore a multi-colored ERL cape. She remains the queen of the Met, no questions asked.

Of course, Demna Gvasalia also dressed Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in blacked-outfits that covered both of their faces – something that has been a signature during Ye’s DONDA era. West has also been working closely with Gvasalia, who’s been doing the creative direction for his various listening parties, so Kimye’s choice to wear Balenciaga makes complete sense, even if they’re still not back together. Sigh.

The best suit of the night was without a doubt worn by Elliot Page, who rocked an oversized blazer with a pair of chunky sneakers – another Balenciaga signature. Simple and classic, but with an eye-catching twist.

Tracee Ellis Ross also wore a gown from Gvasalia’s first couture collection that was revealed earlier this year, and wore the stunning royal blue robe-inspired dress with an edgy bob.

Isabelle Huppert wore a red cake-like dress, and after starring in the label’s most recent campaign alongside Justin Bieber (who also wore Balenciaga for his performance at the event), there was no other brand on the cards.

Lastly, Balenciaga also dressed Michaela Coel, who stole the show in an all-over blue sparkly bodysuit that we’re still freaking out over. The perfect neckline was just *chefs kiss* and the look was undoubtedly one of the most underrated ones from the red carpet.

There’s no doubt that Balenciaga won. Not one look failed to deliver, and despite not necessarily following the “theme” (although we’re not sure anyone really did?) we’re still dying on this hill.
