Lip smacking crispy fried chicken burger – Disco Bistro

Disco Bistro is a 6 month pop up by Carl Clarke, promising to serve “upmarket British fare”. I was handed a discount voucher in the St pauls area. Disco Bistro took residency over at the Rising Sun. A pub I’m too familiar with for after work drinks and some cheeky pimms during lunch hours.

One day I decided to venture and try out Disco Bistro, the downstairs of the rising sun serves “buns” and snacks, whilst upstairs had more variety on the menu.

I was feeling burgers and was happy to see some chicken meat on the menu.

“Buttermilk Fried Chicken Roll, Pat’s hot sauce, avocado, bacon, spicy mayo” Ooooh yes appealed to me, immediately all “buns” is served with chips cooked in beef dripping. (beef fat)

The bun looked monstrous overfilled with a crispy fried juicy thigh, smothered in avocado and spicy mayo and a layer of crispy bacon. The bun fell apart as soon as my hand touched it and I ended up using a knife and fork to demolish the burger.

My my my, the buttermilk chicken was quite something, the meat and skin melted in mouth straight away. The spicy mayo had a slight kick in the hot department and the avocado was mushy. The bacon was too overcooked and crispy. The chips were just delicious crispy golden brown with a hint of sea salt and sumptuous beef drip. It had a crunch with every bite I took and every chip tasted exactly the same.

The brown bread custard with marmalade was indeed something interesting; I was expecting bread and butter pudding. The brown bread was super crunchy more of a digestive biscuit. The custard, tasted like plain cream, and marmalade came in a gelatine jelly form. These elements on it are plain, however when you combined all the flavours and textures it somehow worked.

Sadly tomorrow is Disco Bistro last day, I’ve chatted to the waitresses and they hope to open up in soho in the near future.

Seriously the chicken burger is one of the best I’ve tried in my life, even on my second visit I ordered the same dish.
