The Norton Museum of Art is lauded for its excellent art collection and visiting exhibitions, but it also is a haven for great music. On November 20, the museum opens the fifteenth season of its popular Live! At the Norton Concert Series. Held Sundays at 3 p.m., the concerts cost $3 for members, $8 for nonmembers, and tickets can be purchased at the Visitor Services desk the day of the concert. While there, check out the rest of the museum, which is offering free admission through December 2018. Below, we highlight the talented musicians who will bring a variety of sounds—from Americana brass to classical sonatas—to the museum’s Fisher Gallery.
- November 20, Drew Tucker and the Young Lions: The vibraphone, a percussion instrument composed of a double row of metal bars above a tubular resonator, takes on a thrilling sound in the hands of Drew Tucker, who will be accompanied by a large band on guitar, vocals, piano, bass, drums, and trumpet.
- January 22, Yoko Sata Kothari: Originally from Tokyo, pianist Yoko Sata Kothari returns to the Norton to perform Family Ties, a series of compositions—ranging in style from Baroque to modern—that honor those dearest to her.
- February 5, Andrew Sords: Presented in celebration of the opening of the Recognition of Art by Women (RAW) exhibition, violinist Andrew Sords will perform Beethoven’s Sonata No. 10 in G Major and works by Schubert and Kreisler.
- March 11, Seraph Brass: The series closes out March 11 with a brass attack in the form of Seraph Brass, a quintet composed of some of America’s leading female horn players.
