Following its multi-million dollar refurbishment, the iconic outback camp Longitude 131° by Bailie Lodges reopened to guests in August 2017, embarking on a new era with a more luxurious space than ever before, with the dramatic backdrop of Uluru-Kata Tjuta.
Now the lodge is home to a new premium suite, the Dune Pavilion, the panoramic Dune Top and the property’s first dedicated spa, as well as benefiting from upgrades to the lodge’s guest areas, from the central Dune House to the camp’s swimming pool, creating a more luxurious base to experience Australia’s Red Center from.
Providing the ultimate in outback luxury, the new Dune Pavilion now stands out as Australia’s only accommodation to offer views of the two Unesco World Heritage sites, Ayers Rock and Kata Tjuta, while the camp’s living and dining areas have been elevated to a higher level of contemporary luxury.
On arriving through a dramatic entrance, guests enter the camp’s hub, the Dune House, a light-filled space with floor-to-ceiling windows, encompassing a lounge, restaurant and bar, as well as an outdoor terrace. The new wellness space Spa Kinara, which translates to ‘moon’, then features two treatment areas and a menu of signature therapies using the Australian LI’TYA spa care range and local beauty products such as Salted Emu Bush.
Guests are afforded the best view of the camp’s impressive surroundings from the elevated Dune Top, which also provides the ideal open-air setting for sunset drinks and canapés, a dip in the plunge pool or a private starlit dinner. The pool area, meanwhile, now has the addition of poolside daybeds and a ‘help-yourself’ bar, along with the outdoor dining experience Table 131°, which lies around a central campfire.
The redesign is the result of a collaboration between architects Max Pritchard Gunner—the designers behind the award-winning Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island—and the owners James and Hayley Bailie who endeavored to create a stylish contemporary vibe. With the integration of ceramics and artworks from nearby indigenous communities, the camp provides a sense of place as well as a luxurious base in this extraordinary region.
