Now don’t judge me if I say I like this Asian fusion chain, but hey I’ve been a few times at different branches and it consistency pleased me with the taste. Another successful business by Alan Yau, with his Midas touch the very first Busaba Eathai opened in 1999 on Wardour Street.
I like the unfussy dark interiors, you would most likely end up sharing tables with total strangers, and service is prompt and fast. There were hardly any dinners late one evening in the weekday, immediately getting a seat within seconds.
Food is cheap and comes piping hot, I tend to favour the wok-fried noodles and ordered a Sen Chan Pad Thai along with some ice tea and my beloved Thai Calamari.
It’s nice to see green mangoes making an appearance on the menu, as it is loved in Thailand and I hardly see it on the menu even at Thai restaurants. I love the taste of them, packed with a sweet sourness.
One thing I must stress is to have the Thai Calamari, ever since I had it at Taste of London food festival I’ve been hooked. It’s not any old deep-fried battered calamari; it’s full-blown flavoured with ginger and peppercorn. Every bite lingers inside your mouth and is so unforgettable.
My Sen Chan Pad Thai came piping hot with steam coming out from the dish, the rice stick noodles had tons of sweet sticky flavour, pieces of prawns, bean spouts, loaded with green mangoes and a dollop size of shredded cold crab meat.
I have high praise for the food, but the drinks seemed to be a let down, tasted watery with no flavour. If you’re after quick, low fuss fast food Busaba Eathai is for you. Some branches do special lunch deals, such as Bicester Village.
