Lox Farms launches the Fresh Rx Dinner series

Lox Farms is taking the notion of “food as thy medicine” one step further with the launch of Fresh Rx. Presented in partnership with the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, this new program allows doctors at Jupiter Medical Center to write prescriptions for fresh produce to patients who need to follow a healthier diet to coincide with treatment, free of charge. “It is an emotionally difficult time when patients are diagnosed with an issue, and a financially difficult time with medical bills,” says Margaret Duriez, a native Palm Beacher and founder of Lox Farms. “I’m hoping [Fresh Rx] will make it easier for patients to make a healthy change.”

Patients with a Fresh Rx script will receive a weekly bag of produce packed with lettuce, micro greens, and seasonal vegetables, all certified naturally grown in nutrient-rich soil at Lox Farms. Duriez is also planting a vegetable garden on Jupiter Medical Center’s campus, where Lox Farms will host classes on organic gardening, nutrition, and cooking. A series of farm dinners, featuring local chefs working with Lox Farms produce, will raise funds for the program. Michael Hackman from Aioli will cook March 2, Jimmy Everett from Driftwood will take over March 24, and on April 7, Javier Sanchez of Renato’s will host the event at a private Palm Beach residence.
