Lupita Nyong’o teams up with Michael Kors in Watch Hunger Stop’s “Food is Love” Campaign
Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has teamed up with Michael Kors to support its global philanthropic campaign against hunger, Watch Hunger Stop, which supports the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) school meals program. Entering its seventh year and having delivered more than 18 million meals to children, Nyong’o becomes the face of its latest campaign, “Food is Love”.
This year’s theme tries to send the message about how school meals provide children in food-insecure regions with the nutrition they need to grow and to thrive as well as incentive for families to send their children—especially girls—to school. The campaign was launched through a one minute video that feature Nyong’o, who sported special-edition t-shirt and tote specially designed to raise funds for the cause.
When asked to explain her reason for jumping on board the campaign, Lupita tells that she is “proud” to support the campaign due to its “focus on solutions to the problem of hunger and (it) encourages people to take action on an individual basis.” "When students can eat, they can perform better in school which in turn leads to greater opportunities in life. In so doing, Michael Kors and WFP are facilitating better opportunities for women and girls on a daily basis,” Nyong’o adds.
Aside from an avid supporter of wildlife conservation, Nyong’o is an engaged advocate for women and girls—which Michael Kors sees her fit to be in the campaign with the extraordinary ability to inspire others. “I’m thrilled that she has joined us in the fight against hunger. Her empathy, honesty, and commitment will make her a powerful force for change in the effort to build a world with zero hunger,” says Michael Kors.
The t-shirt and tote that made an appearance in the video is an annual offering by Michael Kors in commemorating World Food Day on October 16. This year, the products are a t-shirt and a tote that features the word LOVE, and will be available for purchase online and in select Michael Kors lifestyle stores around the world beginning October 1.
To make things even better, each time a customer snaps a selfie while wearing their Watch Hunger Stop LOVE t-shirt or tote and posts it online with the hashtag #watchhungerstop, Michael Kors will donate 100 additional meals to WFP. Michael Kors will donate all profits to children in need through the World Food Programme for every LOVE t-shirt or tote sold.
