It’s not everyday an invite lands in the inbox to join an exclusive Lurpak Bake Club supper club cooked by James Ramsden, owner of the Secret Larder supper club and food writer for the Guardian, the Times and lovefood.com.
Vagabond was the choosing venue, an artisan café, and homely atmosphere. James and his team prepared a special 5-course meal. Upon arriving James mixed cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks for guests, and a platter of vegetables was served for starters.
There was 2 different tables, seating for 9 the company on my table were Lurpak Bake Club competition winners. Billie Armstrong who I kept in contact with kindly sent me her baking photos. She is amazingly talented and I was blown away by the angry bird cake she made for her son’s recent birthday. You can find her on instagram @icklebill.
After opening the bottles of red and white wine and chatting amongst the others.
Watercress Soup, Smoked Olive Oil, Edible Flowers, with a slice of sourdough bread was served. The soup was cold, light and refreshing, perfect for the warm summer weather.
Next up were the mains, Spiced Fillet Of Lamb, Middle Eastern Tomato Salad, Cow’s Curd.
The cow’s curd, was creamy, and complemented well with the soft, tender lamb, although I couldn’t taste the spices. The Salad was slightly soggy and warm to enjoy, but I happily wolfed down the rest of the food.
Lastly the desserts were the two favourites of mine of the night, Strawberry and basil tart, and the truffles.
Each guest left with a signed copy of James Ramsden “small adventures in cooking” book and a Lurpak towel.
