With only two steakhouses attached with the name Marco Pierre White worldwide, you expect something top of the notch. Hidden in the bustling city in the square mile, on a back street somewhere near Liverpool Street.
You head down some stairs to the underground Maco Pierre White Steak & Alehouse restaurant. It’s a large restaurant dining room filling a floor of dinners and a private dinning area for 20 people.
It was my friend’s birthday and I’ve been to the Kings Road restaurant before eating gammon, not the steak. So this was the best opportunity to trial out the steak. The friends got a great deal on opentable on the a la carte menu where if you pay the full price for a starter or dessert you get the mains half price. Sounds crazy right? Of course steaks at half price can entice anyone.
I didn’t get of the starters, but the friends who did ordered.
Classic Prawn Cocktail, Sauce Marie Rose.
Kipper Pâté with Whisky, Melba Toast.
Smoked salmon.
Chicken Liver Parfait, Toasted Brioche
Meats at Marco Pierre White Steakhouse come from Aubrey Allen, grass-fed beef dry aged for 28 days. I ordered the 14Oz Ribeye with triple cooked chips on the side.
For a rib eye, the piece is quite chunky and with plenty of meat. My steak was made to order cooked medium rare. Although the meat itself was naturally well-flavoured and cooked well. Something just lacked in, and I think it tasted pretty average. The béarnaise sauce that accompanied the steak was thick and creamy. The triple cooked chips I loved, cooked until golden-yellow. Crunchy on the outer layer, firm bites. I had high expectations for a well-known chef and a steakhouse.
Now I’ve tried the sticky toffee pudding before and wanted to try something different caramelised lemon meringue was the choice.
A little bowl of spikes meringue appeared flame torched at the top, the first spoon revealed a rich lemon custard curd, the parts not been flamed, had a soft fluffy marshmallow touch. I was more impressed with the dessert then the steak, other than that the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse sets an elegant dining experience with it’s plain white table sheets, candles to lit the room.
