It is widely accepted that a fashion house can elevate a car’s image. Haute couture cars, as Men’s Folio‘s Patrick Chew likes to call them, are a growing trend that has seen co-brandings and collaborations between Roberto Cavalli and MINI, Stella McCartney and Jaguar, and most recently, Paul Smith and Land Rover that resulted in a tailor-made Defender with 27 colored panels on the exterior. So when Gildo Zegna decided to partner up with Maserati, he knew that it would take something special to stand out. While we previously covered it here, we also turned to the Men’s Folio Singapore team to find out what that special something is.
Gildo Zegna’s idea was to make use of a material never before used in car interiors. It was an idea that eventually saw Ermenegildo Zegna’s master craftsmen twisting silk yarns and pairing anthracite dark grey silk with Maserati’s black, natural, and red Poltrona Frau leather to create a special interior for 100 models of the Maserati Quattroporte. The automotive-grade fabric combined an incredibly soft feel with an elegant technical look to deliver dynamism and a contemporary feel for the cockpit and seats. Following its immense success, Maserati proceeded to announce that Ermenegildo Zegna’s unique trim package is available on all its Ghibli and Quattroporte models.
In honor of their collaboration, Ermenegildo Zegna and Maserati have created a capsule collection of fine leatherwear and accessories. Inspired by the dual-color and dual-material composition of leather tones and Zegna anthracite silk, the range includes outerwear in leather and technical silk such as sweatshirts and jersey polo shirts, special-edition sneakers, 100 per cent anthracite silk scarves, and foldable sunglasses.
Our favorites from the collection include the leather bomber-style blouson with raglan sleeves in pure silk herringbone and plongee nappa body and the hand-buffed calf leather and Lanificio Zegna’s Maserati fabric sneakers. From the elegant holdall in smooth French calfskin with the Maserati trident embossed details and a fabric lining and the calf leather travel wallet with extractable handle and special passport and boarding pass pockets to the Maserati-logoed key case, the rich assortment of products reveals a rigorous attention to even the smallest of details. Completing the collection are pure silk herringbone scarves, dark brown goat nappa driving gloves, and metal foldable sunglasses with leather detailing – the perfect accessories to excite the luxury sports car enthusiast in each of us.
