Maslow’s Hierarchy of Luxury Needs

While ‘Maslow’s hierarchy of needs‘ was established in his 1943 paper “A Theory of Human Motivation”, in 2020 we have discovered an updated hierarchy of luxury needs.

Base Level – Security

At a base level, we all need a place to lay our heads at night. This is a place that we feel safe and secure, and that will not only help us be able to host important parties but will also have a long term appreciation in the real- estate market. Such a place needs to be at bare minimum a luxury penthouse, though maybe be a country estate, or beach-side villa.

Level 2 – Transport

Once we are safe and secure, we obviously need to be able to move around the world,. The best way to achieve this is with a Lürssen Yacht. You don’t have to have the largest or most expensive yacht, but something like the Dilbar will suffice if you have a spare $800 million.

Level 3 – Pleasure

Though pleasure may be defined in many different ways, psychologists from around the world have, in numerous studies, concluded that driving a Bugatti gives most humans the maximum possible score on the ‘pleasure index’.

The Bugatti La Voiture Noire is a wise choice, though any of their range from the ‘Type 2’ 1901 classic will suffice.

Level 4 – Rolex

You could argue that a Rolex serves as a time piece, but we all know that it’s a fashion item as well. While your peers may look you in the eye, they have already assessed your fashion sense and luxury status by simply glancing at your watch.

The ‘Paul Newman Rolex Daytona” –will cost you $17.8m, but think of it as a necessary investment in your prestige and social standing.

Level 5 – Self Actualization

Self Actualization is defined as “the realization or fulfillment of one’s talents and potentialities, especially considered as a drive or need present in everyone”.

It is clear to see that you can not attain this level of psychological fulfillment without standing on the bedrock of the lower pyramid levels. Could you possibly be happy and actualized without a penthouse? You can try, but the potential shame and humiliation, may be too much to bear.

The only thing you may then fall back on is some of the worlds most expensive psychotherapy.
