It’s another all you can eat mayhem here. Kalbi over at Roseberry Avenue used to be the Japanese restaurant Ginnan. With a makeover to become a Korean indoor BBQ. The inside interior still looks similar to it’s previous site, dark black interiors, spacious large tables. When we arrived only a few diners were there, going on a Sunday the restaurant only opens in the evening from 6pm.
The BBQ buffet has three all you can eat set options, depending on the day and time you visit, you can expect to pay from £20.90 – £29.90 per a person.
Our friends went for the most expensive option, including three rounds of BBQ meats and two mains, four sides and a choice of rice. From £29.90, all of the above was a real steal.
Different types of beef cuts were available, LA Kalbi a beef short rib, BBQ the bones and enjoy sucking on the bone. The first two rounds was mainly plain meat and the last with all the nice Korean marinated meats. Each person chose a bibimbap for his or her rice, accompanied by Japchae my favourite wok fried glass noodles with sweet savoury flavours. Side portions were tremendously big; deep-fried chicken bites of kkanpoongi coated in a sticky glaze, large house crispy pancakes and plenty of side salads with free refills.
The only real scam of the place is the lettuce, giving only a small mingy bowl with 8 leaves we had to order more portions for £1 each. In my experience, most Korean BBQ places will fill you up with plain meat stuff and I much prefer eating the marinated meats. Lesson learned and I will make sure I choose the set C for next time.
Kalbi is a fab place to go if you don’t want to venture to New Malden for Korean food and is better in quality than Old Justice in Bermondsay.
