What if I told you that Dyson (yes, the vacuum cleaner company) is going to change your hair forever. Big words, I know. But I am not exaggerating. Their new state-of-the-art hairdryer is in a league of it’s own.
The cleaning maestros have officially turned their hands to hairdryers, and are changing up the beauty industry with the launch of their brand-new, supersonic blow dryer.
It’s just sprung onto the scene and needless to say, people are buzzing in and outside of the industry. So, is this $399 blowdryer worth investing in? Here’s five things you should know about this sci-fi dryer…

1. Some of the world’s best hairstylists helped in the design and are now using it:
The Kardashian’s go-to hairstylist, Jen Atkin, was just one of the industry’s elite stylists brought in to help design the dryer and ensure it’s way quieter, lighter and quicker than your traditional dryers like ConAir and Revlon. Dyson even entrusted GLAMSQUAD to be the only mobile beauty at-home service whose stylists will exclusively use the Dyson dryer for all blowouts starting today, October 3rd!
2. It was a pricey tool to perfect – $71 million dollars to be exact!
Big dollars were spent on the development of the supersonic dryer. From building all-new, swanky testing laboratories, to hiring dozens of new engineers (specifically female, as the company wanted people on the team that regularly dry their hair).
Plus, Dyson spared zero expense when designing a motor, after all, it is six times smaller and three times lighter than traditional models.
3. All the engineers were given a lesson in good hair:
Dyson sent all the engineers (male and female) to a local college to take hairstyling classes. “I really wanted them to understand what hairstyling was all about and how pros use dryers in the salon,” Tom Crawford, Dyson’s head of product development, explained to Allure Magazine.
4. It looks very different than your average dryer:
At first glance it’s hard to tell it’s a hairdryer – but the clever cylinder uses the brand’s ‘Air Multiplier Technology’ (aka, a fan to do the work). It works by taking air from all sides before multiplying it’s power, then pushing it out through the middle of the ring towards your hair.
5. Say goodbye to spilt ends:
An overheated hair dryer can wreak havoc on your hair, blasting away the moisture and leaving you with frizz and split ends. Dyson has tried to put an end to all our past hairdryer damage with this latest launch, ensuring there are four temperature settings and three airflow settings, meaning you can tailor the heat to your hair type. The fun doesn’t stop there though, inside the dryer is a thermometer that records the temperature around 20 times per second, guaranteeing it’ll never get too hot causing hair damage.
