Their family is growing! Meghan Markle is pregnant and expecting baby No. 2 with Prince Harry and their big news was revealed on Valentine’s Day.
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan confirmed to Us Weekly on Saturday, February 14. “‘The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.'”
Meghan’s pregnancy news comes seven months after she opened up about the heartbreaking miscarriage she suffered in July 2020. The Los Angeles native revealed the news in a New York Times op-ed published on November 25.
So much has changed for the royal couple since welcoming their first child, Archie, in May 2019. In March 2020, Meghan and Harry gave up their royal titles to live a more private life in North America. After spending time in Canada and Los Angeles, the pair settled in Montecito, California, where they’re enjoying raising their son outside of the spotlight.
Being in Montecito allows the soon-to-be family of four to focus on quality time together, and they’ve been making the most of their new $14.7 million home. Harry began “teaching Archie to swim” in their beautiful pool and “spending a lot of time” together in the garden, an insider previously told Closer Weekly. “They’re building a vegetable garden and are growing fruit and herbs. Since meeting Meghan, Harry eats more healthily. Everything they eat is organic.”
The source admitted Harry is “definitely happier” living in the states. “Harry and Meghan have no regrets whatsoever about purchasing their home in Montecito,” the insider said. “He says he feels safer and more relaxed at their new home and enjoys the freedom. It’s nice to see [Harry] smiling again.”
The pair felt raising Archie away from royal life was the best move for them. For starters, Meghan “hated the PDA ban” as a member of the royal family and “wants” her kids “to grow up feeling comfortable expressing” themselves, an insider told In Touch. “Harry firmly believes that Archie should be able to have the freedom he never had.” That includes being “taught the importance of freedom of speech and giving back to the community, and most importantly not to let anything get in the way of achieving his dreams and happiness.”
But just because the pair relinquished their royal duties in January doesn’t mean they aren’t still focused on using their influence for good. Meghan recently talked about how she’s trying to make the world better for their children to grow up in. “I wouldn’t be able to feel proud of myself as a mom if I [knew] I wasn’t doing my part to make it a better place for him,” she shared during a virtual appearance at Fortune’s “Most Powerful Next Gen Summit” on October 13. “Every single day [I think,] ‘How can I make this world better for Archie?’ That is a shared belief for my husband and I.”
We can’t wait to see how the family enjoys their second pregnancy as private citizens!
