Mia Matthews | Actress, Producer
The acting bug bit Mia Matthews early: After taking the role of Gladys in the high school production of The Pajama Game, Matthews knew acting was for her and followed that dream to Carnegie Mellon University’s prestigious school of drama. Following a successful stint in New York City’s theater scene, Matthews moved to Palm Beach, where she raised her two daughters. After a 14-year hiatus from acting, Matthews returned to the stage as Desdemona from the top-rated Nickelodeon series Every Witch Way, for which she was nominated for a Kids’ Choice Award. She starred and was the co-executive producer of the feature film Daddy, and today, she plays the role of Karen, the publicist for a Miami-based record label, on the Hulu original series South Beach. The acting bug has been infectious, with Matthews and her daughter Bianca just wrapping shooting of their latest film project, Annabelle Hooper and the Ghosts of Nantucket, which will be released in spring.
While her schedule is packed with shoots and rehearsals, school projects and homework, Matthews still finds the opportunity to give back to the community. As an advocate for arts education, Matthews is a proponent—and volunteer—with the Kravis Center’s education program and is enrolled in Nova Southeastern University‘s masters program in Interdisciplinary arts and drama therapy. She hopes to use theater arts to reach children with autism.
