As chefs from across Hong Kong and Macau gathered to find out if their restaurants made the cut for the prestigious red dining guide, the 11th edition of the annual Michelin Guide was announced today at City of Dreams in Macau, and we now have a new list of restaurants worthy of a star (or two or three) in 2019.
This year, the results revealed two new three-Michelin-starred restaurants, including Hong Kong’s contemporary French restaurant Caprice, and Macau’s Chinese restaurant Jade Dragon. This brings the total number of restaurants with the Michelin Guide’s highest accolade (three stars) in Hong Kong to seven, and three in Macau.
Four new two-starred restaurants were announced, with three from Hong Kong including newly opened French fine-dining restaurant Écriture and Four Seasons Hotel’s Sushi Saito, both of which make their debut on the 2019 Michelin Guide list. Another restaurant gaining two stars in Hong Kong is Cantonese restaurant Ying Jee Club, which jumped from one Michelin star awarded for 2018. Meanwhile, Macau’s new two-star winner is Alain Ducasse at Morpheus, which features some of the legendary French chef’s most famous dishes.
The 2019 selection also lists 55 restaurants awarded one Michelin star — 44 in Hong Kong and 11 in Macau — with six new additions announced today, including French-rooted restaurants Arbor and Belon, The Murray’s Cantonese restaurant Guo Fu Lou, Black Sheep Restaurants’ Northern Indian and tandoor grill house New Punjab Club, Italian chef Umberto Bombana’s Octavium and Shanghainese restaurant Xin Rong Ji.
Our hearty congratulations to all the restaurants that have been awarded this year!
