Style/Ambiance: First established in Delhi in 1959, Moti Mahal’s English incarnation enjoys a plum spot in London’s West End and makes a fine ambassador for the original.
The tasting menu takes inspiration from the Grand Trunk Road—the ancient route linking present day India, Pakistan and Afghanistan—with wine pairings giving a well-judged nod westward. Highlights include tender tandoor-roasted jumbo prawns marinated in tamarind, chili and curry leaf, and crisp fried lotus stem with peanut and coriander. In this city of Indian ‘interpretations’, this is a welcome taste of authenticity.
