Varun Soni is a 25-year-old content creator from Abu Road, Rajasthan, who is also a passionate dancer, actor, and performer. For Varun, social media is the biggest boon that gave a direction to his career. Varun considers his 159K followers on Instagram as an extended family and makes content to entertain, inform, and educate them. He shares his journey in the world of online content creation with TMM.
THE BEGINNING
I have always been active in extra-curricular activities in school and dance has always been my strength. I feel that dancing helps relax my body and at the same time gives me the kick to express my feelings. I always wanted to step out of the city and my family, who runs a jewellery business, wanted me to settle down with the family legacy. With time they changed and agreed and I was able to live my dream, perform, and here I am today, a successful content creator, who will soon step into the world of web series and acting.
DANCE FOR SURVIVAL
To be honest, I need attention and my dancing talent helped me grab eyeballs everywhere. When I went to college in Ahmedabad, I felt lost, but again my dancing skill helped me gain the attention of people and it opened the gateway to success and that is when I was exposed to these pageants and I won Mr Jaipur and Mr Rajasthan title. These successes built my confidence level and I decided to be on social media platforms starting from TikTok to Instagram.
CONTENT MANAGEMENT
For an outsider, Instagram is just about images and videos, but for us, who are full-time content creators, it’s a productive and exhausting space, where we have a target of unique and sensible content spiced up with consistency. For me, it’s a target of 20 videos a month and generating new content every other day is not an easy job. As a routine, I try to sit with a fresh mind in the morning and then dedicate a few hours in shaping the idea, then shoot and then post as per the subject demands. Sometimes it works like a magic, and there are days when ideas backfire. So, as a creator, one has to go through the ups and downs and still keep creating. Trust me; it’s not at all easy.
THE OTHER SIDE
For me, social media has surely been a boon, but now when I look at the amount of content that is bombarded to audiences, at times I feel that there are deserving content creators who don’t get the attention and then there are people who are getting all tractions and businesses as well. I feel that social media platforms need to redefine the mechanism so that it turns out to be a benefiting medium for unique and genuine content creators.
JEWELLERY JAZZ
During the lockdown, when I had leisure time at home I thought of expanding my family business of jewellery in the online world and that’s when I started the page of sterling silver products and in less than a month time, it started picking up. As a creative person, I know how to channelize my energies in the right direction and social media is that guiding tool that helps me shape it right.
FUTURE FILE
I love the space I am in at present and going forward I would like to create a balance between my social media content and online jewellery business, so that they together give me the much-needed satisfaction and a sense of completeness as an individual.
