In an interaction with TMM, Rameshwari Talluri Seth, one of the best actresses of her time in Bollywood, and Bhaskara Seth, Co-founders, Neemli Naturals talk about the journey, hardships, and future of the brand.

From Bollywood to the skincare industry, how did the shift happen and why?
RTS: I wouldn’t call it a shift but I’d say I have an entrepreneurial spirit and as a family, we like to venture into new interesting things, and Neemli kind of grew from there. I still love to act and do it from time to time when I get an interesting offer, but starting a business and seeing it grow is also a rush of its own kind.

Talk about the hardships you faced in bringing Neemli to life?
BS: With Neemli, it was us who invested in the business, and there were times when things looked difficult with the unforeseen expense and delays with productions or label printing mishaps but we powered through. Anyone who has started a business knows how difficult the initial phase is and ours was no different. Although things are a lot better right now, we still face challenges on a daily basis. It’s all about how we can continue problem-solving and planning, so these tend to reduce over time.

When it comes to skincare products, what are the factors that a user needs to keep in mind?
BS: With skincare, you need to know your skin type, whether it’s oily, dry, combination, and furthermore is it sensitive overall or to a particular ingredient. These are the things you already know but never paid attention to. Next comes up your concerns like acne, pigmentation, wrinkles, dark circles, etc and you target these based on the ingredients with actives and formulations particularly created for these concerns and to combat these issues. It is always suggested to buy products that are based on your skin type as they help solve the problem to a large extent.

What are the key categories of products and what is the USP of the brand?
BS: As of now, we are majorly focusing on skincare products, and in that our facial care products are created knowing different skin types. Our USP is quite simple; we are honest and transparent in our approach with a clear focus on providing results with the use of very high-quality ingredients and actives. Our line of products are vegan and PETA- certified.

Social media is a world of illusion. Is it a perfect marketing tool for skincare brands like Neemli?
BS: Honestly for us, it’s an ideal channel for communication with our customers and it helps us talk to them, and reach out to them in the best way we possibly can. The idea is to have a lasting relationship and for that the product needs to be great and we can’t compromise on that.

Any tips for young minds who wish to be an entrepreneur?
BS: Take your time with your ideas and let them gestate. It is important to understand the art of owning a business. It is not only that you need to make a great product but you also need to sell and find channels to get to your final customers and both need to be given enough time. It’s tough and takes years before you really start seeing any results, but it’s very satisfying and there’s nothing quite like it.

What are your expansion plans for Neemli?
BS: We have recently started exporting Neemli products to the US, Middle East, Africa, and even South East Asia is on the cards, and we can already see that growth and expansion happening very quickly. Offline retail within India has a huge potential and we are finding some great like-minded partners to expand our reach across this great country of ours. Other than this, hair care and nutraceuticals are sectors which we have been doing a lot of research on, in fact, our haircare range is almost ready for production, we are just fine-tuning the products to make sure we come out with something we are truly proud of.
