Editor’s Notes: Sneakerheads are always clamoring for archival and long-since-seen Nike silhouettes to make a return, but when they do, some aren’t always pleased with the release tactics employed by the Swoosh.

What begins with a singular or pack retro often leads to an onslaught of monthly releases to capitalize on the hype of a sneaker’s return to the game. We’ve seen it countless times, with 2010’s Flyknit hype, the return of Shox, and perhaps most notoriously with the Dunk Low.

When a steady rollout of Dunks was announced, the general reception was positive, given the cult following the silhouette has garnered over the years, especially where Nike SB is concerned. Through both general releases and collaborations, the Dunk Low has been the center of what many would argue at Nike’s boldest or most classic releases – we’re looking at you, SB Dunk Low x Ben & Jerry’s “Chunky Dunky.”

Over the past year, new Dunk Low colorways and re-releases have felt like a constant. We’ve had the “UNC,” “Panda,” “Pine Green,” and “Yellow Strike,” just to name a few – with many, many more on the way before the year wraps up.

The humble Dunk Low remains a fan of Highsnobiety readers, either way, stirring a bit of buzz even when we reshare older colorways. Of course, collaborations hit extra hard.

Some of the colorways yet to come include the easy-wearing “Grey Fog,” which drops on September 21. Further colorways with looser release details and the traditional leather build include “Midas Gold,” “Championship Red,” and the women’s-exclusive “Animal Swoosh.” For those seeking something a bit different in the fabrication department, the “Medium Olive” iteration features a recycled nylon upper.

Whether or not Dunk Lows have been played out is for you to decide, but either way, they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.
