There are several New York Public Libraries in the city, but nothing comes close to the Stephen A Schwarzman Building located on Fifth Avenue on 42nd Street. This is the Main Branch of the New York Public Library system and is also a Manhattan landmark. There is one research library located within the building, as well as nine separate divisions. It has a Beaux-Arts style exterior, which is made with marble and has ornate detailing, and you can’t miss the two regal stone lions at its entrance. There are many public stacks that you can access whether you’re looking for something in particular or simply want to marvel at all of the history. In many rooms you will find massive windows that allow in plenty of natural light, as well as ornate chandeliers and murals on the ceiling that depict classic scenes. Whether you love literature or history, be sure to visit this one-of-a-kind library.
