From feeding the hungry to sustainable and charitable initiatives, here’s how Hong Kong’s hospitality brands are helping out during these trying times.
The Peninsula Hong Kong
In partnership with Impact HK, Feeding Hong Kong and Food Angel, the historic hotel’s community efforts include a meal-donation programme to assist the most vulnerable during this time of crisis, with a one-for-one meal donation for every meal consumed at any of The Peninsula‘s restaurants. It’s extending an invitation to guests to lend a helping hand in the preparation of these donated meals.

The Upper House
The contemporary hotel is giving back to the local community through its 49th-floor restaurant Café Gray Deluxe and working with Foodlink Foundation to donate foods to disadvantaged communities affected by Covid-19. Guests can show their support by ordering an online delivery, with an additional HK$50 minimum to buy a food bag, which contains dried and canned foods, soup and hand sanitiser. The Upper House are also working with Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association to support disadvantaged members and their families affected by COVID-19 by delivering 600 meals from Café Gray Deluxe during these challenging times. Guests can contribute to this initiative by adding selected amount of HK$ to their room packages and the hotel will match the donation in House credit to use during their stay. Meanwhile, the hotel’s Soap Cycling initiative redistributes lightly used bathroom amenities; it’s also donating HK$60 for every room reservation, which in turn will enable distribution of hygiene kits to frontline cleaners.

Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong
Mandarin Oriental’s #MOCares campaign sees hotel staff participating in numerous volunteer programmes that support local charities. In a joint effort with Oxfam Hong Kong, it’s helping the city’s less fortunate and packing anti-epidemic supplies for underprivileged families and street cleaners. In addition, it’s refurbishing donated computers with Crossroads Foundation for students in poverty, and participating in online storytelling sessions for underprivileged children with Bring Me a Book. Mandarin Oriental has also shown its hospitality by delivering homemade brownies to local hospitals, including the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern and Ruttonjee.

Marco Polo Hotels
Marco Polo Hong Kong mounts CSR efforts in support of the community, the environment and its own staff. In light of the limited mask supply for its employees, Marco Polo has produced 1,200 reusable fabric masks for internal use. Moreover, as a long-term partner with the Children’s Cancer Foundation, the hotel has delivered surgical masks for adults and children, along with hand sanitisers and colouring books, which are designed to encourage children to stay positive in these difficult times. Hotel staff have also volunteered to clean litter along trekking locations, in addition to soap recycling and redistribution efforts to disadvantaged communities in Asia.

Rosewood Hong Kong
In support of ImpactHK’s charitable scheme to assist the homeless and less fortunate, Rosewood Hong Kong’s Butterly Patisserie is donating one lunchbox for every one of its Or Noir tarts sold. In addition, it’s also launched a new series of local initiatives to support local residents by extending its partnership to prepare and deliver 150 meals a day to those severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong
The Ritz-Carlton, Kowloon’s tallest luxury hotel, has been working with the CCC Kei To Church in Yau Ma Tei to prepare and distribute bento boxes on Sundays. The initiative, which runs until August, aims to help and support underprivileged communities in the area.
W Hong Kong
In a partnership with Dignity Kitchen, a social-enterprise restaurant that aims to make a positive impact through local cuisine, W Hong Kong has initiated a series of events to interact with and support the restaurant’s activities. One of these will see the hotel’s executive pastry chef Baptiste Villefranque teaching and demonstrating how to make pastries, step by step.
