Luxury jeweller Nirav Modi showcased his eponymous brand’s high-jewellery collection at the 29th Biennale des Antiquaires in September. It was the second consecutive occasion that Modi has unveiled exceptional creations at the prestigious fair in Paris, the jeweller again revealing distinctive designs of unparalleled craftsmanship that incorporate only the finest and rarest diamonds and gemstones from around the world.
Accompanying Modi at the gathering’s glamorous gala dinner, held at the French capital’s magnificent Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, was Bollywood actress and model Lisa Haydon, who dazzled in Nirav Modi’s Regal Emerald and Diamond Jewellery Suite of necklace, earrings and ring. The suite’s pieces feature vivid green, pear-shaped Colombian emeralds swathed in glittering diamonds.
A passionate art collector, Modi draws inspiration from diverse sources, his creative influences spanning everything from ancient myths and French Impressionist painters of the 19th century to the art nouveau architecture so adored in the City of Light and the opulent lifestyles of Indian maharajahs of the Mughal era.
At Biennale des Antiquaires, the results of Modi’s creative ambition and commitment to originality were displayed against a backdrop of paper-art bougainvillea. Each unique jewellery piece blended Modi’s Indian heritage and global outlook.
Highlights among Nirav Modi’s new creations included the Majestic Mogok Ruby Suite that features 27 Mogok rubies of great rarity, impressive size and exquisite depth of colour, and which total 71.11 carats. Only the finest diamonds (128.56 carats in all; graded D, E and F for colour) complement the rubies, with each cluster of stones connected by an old-mine, cushion-cut diamond to evoke the warm, candlelit ambience of an Indian palace. Each earring is finished with a single flawless pear-shaped diamond drop.
Only the most outstanding stones are selected, cut, polished and set using minimal metal in Nirav Modi’s shimmering masterpieces. This fact is amply displayed in Modi’s Sakura necklace and earrings, which explore with white and pink diamonds the delicate beauty of the cherry blossom, with emerald-cut solitaires surrounded by petal-like frames of contrasting colour. Together, the necklace and earrings feature 3,350 diamonds totalling 58 carats.
In the Luminance necklace, meanwhile, more than 103 carats of diamonds are meticulously positioned so that the piece folds like a scarf, with pear-shaped diamonds in an array of cuts floating over a handcrafted rose-cut diamond-embellished bed.
A modern take on the popular fashion motif, Nirav Modi’s opulent yet elegant Paisley bangle is studded with 40 pear-shaped diamonds totalling 28 carats to reflect torrents of light. Brilliant-cut diamonds further enhance its striking beauty. The Soleil ring, meanwhile, is centred on a pear-shaped fancy yellow diamond of 20.87 carats. Exceptionally rare due to its size, symmetry and absence of fluorescence, the stone nestles among fancy intense-pink diamonds, and is mounted on a diamond-embellished openwork basket.
Rounding off the highlights at Biennale des Antiquaires were two more exceptional pieces. Rare Panjshir emeralds, weighing more than one carat each, gleam vivid green in the flora-inspired Bloom ring, in which two delicate flowers rest delicately between the fingers, and petal elements, in an assortment of pleasing cuts, fan out around the octagonal emeralds. Finally, a 4.1-carat vivid pink sapphire from Sri Lanka (which glows among oval jasmine-cut and round brilliant-cut diamonds) dominates Nirav Modi’s dramatic Pink Dahlia ring.
Ultimately, the jewellery displayed – to international acclaim – by Modi in Paris further cements his reputation for creating extraordinary diamond pieces that celebrate every woman’s beauty and transcend geographic borders. With plans for further expansion in Europe, the United States and Asia, Nirav Modi currently boasts boutiques in prestigious locations in London, New York, Beijing, Macau, Mumbai, New Delhi and Singapore, as well as in ifc mall, Elements Mall, and on Canton Road, in Hong Kong.
