No One Is More Excited For Commonwealth DC’s Rebirth Than Vandy The Pink

DC-based boutique Commonwealth has served the people of Washington D.C. the choicest streetwear cuts for a decade-and-a-half, so it’s high time that the boutique’s humble flagship space got an upgrade. And who better to commemorate the move than local legend Vandy The Pink?

Los Angeles’ wrk-shop worked with Commonwealth’s team to conceive of a space equally clean and inviting. The inorganic coldness of metal mingles with the homey feel of wood paneling and cacti, a touch of contrast that suits Commonwealth’s far-reaching product selection.

That selection, for reference, contains workwear favs like Engineered Garments and visvim, skate staples Dime and Stüssy, and everything in between.

It’s appropriate that the 1,700 square-foot space’s inaugural pop-up — to be held the weekend of August 21 and 22 — is with Vandy. The designer is a hot commodity in the post-bootleg Instagram fashion scene, his burger sneakers and IYKYK collabs craved by a collective of international admirers.

“We are super honored to be working with Commonwealth to celebrate their new flagship store in DC,” Vandy Son told Highsnobiety. “I moved from Korea to the DMV almost 10 years [ago] and it’s become my second home.”

Vandy will bring a stash of covetable clothing and collaborative goods to his Commonwealth pop-up, properly welcoming the new space to his adopted city.

“To be able to collaborate and work with the Commonwealth team has been a goal of mine and gives me a sense of pride for my city. We can’t wait to show everybody what we have in store.

“Commonwealth is psyched to work with Vandy,” Commonwealth co-founder Omar Quiambao continued.

“He’s part of a new wave that’s able to mix the old guard codes of streetwear with his point of view. I see his products as classic silhouettes with playful subversive takes on aspirational and luxury goods [that] inject humor and fun.”

Humor? Fun? We’ll take ’em.
