When it comes to packing workwear on the fly, I’ve come to be a bit of an expert. With half my time spent working from home balancing blog, full time job and personal life… and every-other week spent in my office in NYC with late nights and heavy workloads… life pretty much exists in a suitcase, and I have to be able to pull it together at a moments notice. That means picking out my office wardrobe in advance, and being able to fit everything into a somewhat too-small luggage set.
Pieces then need to arrive wrinkle free, since I stay at different hotels each stay you just never know the amenities they may be missing. I have to be prepared for bipolar weather, client meetings, blogger events and the occasional night out with friends.
If you’re not exhausted yet, you were made for New York living. I’ve created a sort of formula for packing that helps me breeze through overnight bags, cosmetics and jewelry. But clothes you pretty much just have to think through. Unless you don’t mind being stuck a week away from home with mismatched clothes and nothing to wear.
My go-to NY working style: pack 2-3 decent pants than can go with a variety of tops. Then match up an assortment of top choices to be prepared for working woman to evening out style. Camis with cardigans, bodysuits, and work blouses. Just covered at least 3 of the dozens of places one might end up. And dresses, lots of dresses. Anything that you can wear as 1 piece and go is a win in my book.
David Lerner understands classic versatility, and makes some pretty fab essentials for any working woman on the go. In collaboration with them, I’ve styled one of my go-to office looks, along with a couple casual-Friday combos. Materials are great quality, and they’ve been a brand I can rely on grabbing without having to overthink what I’ll wear them with – they go with everything. Plus they’re based in New York, so I know they get the struggle, and make pieces that fit into my lifestyle.
From lounge looks to 9-5 essentials, they’ve got my New York working style more than covered. The color palette has been on point, and my monochrome heart is secretly lusting over some of their burgundy pieces in the new collection. If you’re looking for solid quality basics for office style or just need a couple classics to stabilize your overly-trendy wardrobe, they’re your source.
This chiffon blouse has been a grab piece for every trip. Modest enough for office, sexy enough for night out when paired with these leatherette leggings. And for those who don’t like to repeat outfits (guilty) this blouse is so classic you won’t even notice mode on repeat, it’s just going to happen naturally. Now if only I could find something as reliable to eat on the friggin train #travelblues
Hey it’s almost the holidays, hope you’re gearing up for a good one. Merry Christmas, and best wishes for the tail end of 2016!
